Slow Boot Time (firmware)

Hi!
I am writing because the boot time of my machine is somewhat unbearable. It used to be quite fast: something must have gone wrong somewhere.

I am trying to understand what might be wrong, with little success.

I have run the command

systemd-analyze

to otbain the following output:

Startup finished in 2min 56.979s (firmware) + 10.877s (loader) + 1min 3.445s (kernel) + 9.955s (userspace) = 4min 21.258s 
graphical.target reached after 2.646s in userspace

Could someone please help?

As you can see, there’s plenty of unused space. As I am a newbie, I am still trying to work my way out of btrfs, lvm and snapshots!

Hm, are you on btrfs or ext4, may I ask?

First thing I would check is if any external USB devices are connected (like hubs and so on).

Okay, please enter sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and add nvme pcieport ahci xhci_pci btrfs to the line starting by MODULES=( , so it looks like MODULES=(nvme pcieport ahci xhci_pci btrfs).

Next, go completely to the bottom, and add COMPRESSION="cat" , then hit ctrl +s to save then ctrl + x to exit.

Finally, execute sudo mkinitcpio -P in the terminal, followed by sudo update-grub !
Reboot!!
