'Among Us' fails to launch with proton 5.9-GE-7-ST (or any other version of proton)

I am forcing the proton version on launch and I’m not sure what is preventing from this game from launching. When I press play it says “preparing to launch…” for several seconds and then goes away and quits.

Here is the output of steam in the terminal after I try to launch the game

Most good reports I see are using AMD and proton 5.0.9 … but anyways … you should probably look here:

Do the basics and clean everything.

  • Verify your game files through Steam Verify Integrity of Game Files - How To's - Knowledge Base - Steam Support
  • Delete (or rename for backup) the Proton prefix for this game, located at ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/{APP_ID}/ where {APP_ID} is the Steam application ID, in theory for Among Us it is 945360
  • Select the Proton 5.0 version in Steam Settings, and do not force another Proton version (official or external like the Eggroll’s builds)
  • Make sure you have the system and video drivers up to date

Then try to start the game, it will recreate a fresh Proton prefix for the game and according to Proton DB it should work out of the box.
