After upgrade faulty GPU cannot change resolution

Hi guys,
To start my laptop has a faulty GPU consequently manjaro is not at fault in anyway regarding this problem.
However I could change the resolution from installed settings to my user settings. After recent upgrades, I cannot change the default resolution from 1290x1080.
I installed xorg-xrandr and changed the settings 1600x900 [great] but on reboot the resolution reverts to 1290x1080.

If I knew how to run a script at boot, to change my resolution settings that would solve the problem.

so strange

you know “it’s faulty”

but then you wonder why things don’t work as expected?

… very strange

sell the thing - if you can
clearly disclosing the hardware error in the description

If Windows somehow still works, you might have a chance :sunglasses:

no one is going to by a defunct linux machine from you …
but:
who knows?
you might get lucky

@Nachlese You obvously did not read the post.

We all don’t have unlimited disposable income and as I stated this was working well for over three years. This is a forum for people seeking advice,if you have nothing useful to add don’t comment.

… but if it is defunct/broken
by your own assessment
why do you expect it to be to behave as … expected? ^^

… but I did …

I bought a laptop - some time after, the graphics card crapped out.
still working, but not a nice picture
the machine keeps working, connect external monitor and you’d never know …

I would not sell it without disclosing the flaw - even though it is obvious when the machine is used without external monitor.

xrandr is only temporary.

You could use a systemd user service, or an auto start script,

Settings>Session and Startup>Application Autostart and click “Add”.

You could also configure it using xorg.

According to your title:

After upgrade faulty GPU cannot change resolution

…before the update your faulty GPU could change the resolution. That means whatever happened in the updated changed your faulty GPU to not be able to change the resolution. Which seems correct for a faulty GPU, which mean the updated corrected a wrong which is, in turn, what updates are supposed to do…

So…

A simple question. Do you have additional monitor(s) connected, that you have failed to mention?

  • Is 1600x900 actually supported by the monitor in question?
    (check your specs).

  • 1290x1080 – I noticed you mentioned this rather non-standard resolution several times – did you mean 1920x1080?
