After Updating Manjaro with pacman I can't login

Hi, I am quite new to Linux in general and yesterday I installed Manjaro, I made some updates and when I reboot the pc, I stopped being able to log in. What I did was literally this:

  • Go to the ‘Manjaro Settings Manager’ application and install the Nvidia Drivers (which by the way, I got this on the console: ‘gpg: key 786C63F330D7CB92: no user id for key’).

  • Reset the PC and log in … So far so good

  • Then enter the ‘Add/Remove Software’ application and apply the updates that were available.

  • Reset the PC and then here the problems began.

After doing exactly that then I stopped being able to login. I was trying to login and the screen puts black as if I was going to enter the desktop and then the login reapears.

Here I show you the output of the command “inxi --admin --verbosity = 7 --filter --no-host --width”

I must also say that when I edit the boot parameters (when the grub screen) and add the letter s to the end of the line that starts with ‘linux’ word and I enter the rescue mode, log in and immediately exit I can incredibly login in the GUI and enter the desktop. Hence I assume that it has something to do with PAM that I read that it has deprecated modules and I know that it has to do with the login (I only know that jjj). So what can I do to solve this? I will greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

I’d recommend to read the announcement threads every time you’re about to run an update.

From the latest announcement thread (This is a known issue):

For information on merging configuration files, I think the thread below is the best source around:

You were able to boot in recovery mode, that’s all you need to start fixing this.

Hope that helps! :+1:

Thank for the links I’ll go to give a look

Get used to this.

Regarding this bug, I don’t have any .pacnew file in that directory, so I don’t know what to do. I really need help with this. I will show you the content of the “system-auth” file to see if someone can tell me if there is something to change

Yeah, am already doing it and I have just started … have read about problems with PAM but none solution that fits me. That’s why I need help
