After the recent update. Ethernet would suddenly drop after about 2 hours or so

Hi Everyone,

I am having issues, with my Internet over Ethernet, that it will just simple drop about 1.5 ~ 2.5 hours after boot. I have tried everything to my knowledge, checking status and logs.

Restarting NetworkManager, systemd-Networkd, everything I can think of. Yet, nothing works, except rebooting the system. Then it would work for about 1.5 ~ 2.5hrs than drop again. This happen regardless if I am on VPN or not. So I would assume it is not the VPN’s Kill Switch doing this.

I have been using Linux for years, and never encounter problem like this one, and right now I don’t even know where to look anymore. LOL.

Everything is up to date using Kernel 5.10 LTS.

Thank you so much for the helps in advances.

Please read and post a full inxi output:

It would be a good idea to mention which VPN as well.

Sure thing, and I am using Nordvpn with Nordvpn.bin from the AUR. And I again I am having this issue with or without turn on the VPN. And I have reinstall all the network manager thing along with the VPN.

I am not sure about your issue without VPN, but there has been a bit of discussion here regarding NordVPN client and disconnects, There is a solution involving switching to systemd-resolved and installing wireguard-tools. The issue with Nord is in the following posts:

Disable NordVPN entirely to discern if it is involved or not.
Do you see any log messages in the journal around the time the connection drops?
Does your system still have an IP address?
Look into dhcp and (possibly failed) renewal of dhcp leases.

So I did try to remove Nordvpn-bin completely and try to see the issue occurs, and so far, that seems to work OK. It seems like it is a Nordvpn issues after all. And that kind of explain why there aren’t any log anywhere, that suggest problems.

Thanks for the Posts, I will look into those to see if anything help with the issues for the time being.
