After the latest Manjaro update Sweet Home 3D refuses to open

I encountered the following issue this afternoon when I attempted opening Sweet Home 3D normaly:

Clicking on the icon the start program window appeared and the program tab started spinning briefly on the bar, then, disappeared leaving the start window blocked on the screen that I was unable to close. Rebooting does the job of closing the window, but every time I attempt to reopen the application it’s the same problem again.

I currently have 3 kernels, 5.4, 5.10 and 5.15, and I’ve tried to open the application after booting into each kernel, but with no joy, alas…

Any help to resolve this predicament would be much appreciated :crossed_fingers:

Here’s my system output:

strange, runs fine on my machine. Maybe try to start it from command line to see some messages. Could be a Java issue?

I’ll try to find the appropraite command line arguments(possibly in Manjaro Wiki?) and see how it goes. Thanks for your suggestion @hape :+1:

Arch linux bug report - FS#74474 : [sweethome3d] Fails to launch because JRE 17 workaround not updated for JRE 18

END-USER WORKAROUND: Manually force sweethome3d to call an earlier version of Java by setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable at runtime, e.g.

@ishaan2479 thanks for your reply. I’m not particularly competent with the terminal but I’ve looked at few of the things in the link you provided.

I entered the command:

sudo JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk sweethome3d

It opened the application and I got the follwing message :

“Java 3D: implicit antialiasing enabled”

It’s a good start I think. Cheers! :hugs:

Also you may try to install the “Flatpak-Version”. It works than.

Thanks, I’ll take a peek

Hi,

I got the same error.
When started from the cmdline the sweethome3d startup script delivers:
%> sweethome3d
Warning: Sweethome 3D actually is not compatible with Java version > 16
Falling back to java-19-openjdk

Obviously something is wrong in the script.

At line33 of the script all available java installations are checked and versions higher than 16 should be skipped.
This fails with an installed java-19 because the script checks for java-17 respectively java-18 only.
For the script to suceed a check for java-19 should be added:
_PREVIOUS_JAVA_VERSION=“$(archlinux-java status | tail -n +2 | sort | cut -d ’ ’ -f 3 | sort -nr -k 2 -t ‘-’ | grep -vE ‘17-|18-|19-’ -m 1)”

Welcome, @lisna,

FYI I reopened said application an instant ago…and still the same thing. However, I shan’t attempt any under the bonnet “shenanagans”. I installed Room Arranger and at some point I daresay I’ll drop definitively Sweet Home 3D  In the meantime I’ll just have to reboot and get rid of that pesky GUI that is just stuck there and doesn’t open
