Advanced screen information

is there any command or software to tell the detailed advanced information about the screen of my laptop? such as: oled or not, IPS or VA or TN, uses wpm or not, have blue block or not, the frequency of the screen
and is there a software that let the computer changes the brightness of the screen without using PWM?

Well edid-decode would be the most detailed view:

pamac build edit-decode-git
find -L /sys/class/drm/ -maxdepth 2 -type f -iname "*edid" -exec sh -c 'echo ">>> {}"' \; -exec edid-decode "{}" 2>/dev/null \;

That is not defined on the EDID of the monitor as I know. You have to look at the specifications of the manufactory. The EDID mainly defines compatibilities.

:question: :thinking:

Is in the EDID normally, and sometimes just calculated based on the EDID.

Isn’t PWM for controlling fans?

PWM is used for a variety of purposes:

  • to adjust the speed of a motor
  • to dim the brightness of LEDs
  • to generate audio signals effectively
  • There are probably 100 other areas of application

It is certainly also used to adjust the backlighting of a screen. But that is cast in hardware and cannot be changed in software. :man_shrugging:

(software only can change the duty-cycle 0% … 100%)
