Accessing network drive is hit or miss

Hi All,
I hope this is the correct place for this post, kindly let me know if it isn’t.

I have Manjaro KDE installed and fully updated in a multi-boot with Windows 11, also fully updtated.

I have an external hard drive connected to my TP-Link routers usb port.

I used to be able to access it, read and write to it without issue from Manjaro and Windows 10. Then I had to update to Windows 11 and could only read the usb hard drive (not very useful).

Long story short, the only way to be able to write to the usb hard drive was to change the settings in my router; I know have it set to secure access which requires a password.

It works fine in Windows 11 but not so much in Manjaro.

I ran into issues intermediately so I deleted the old saved folder (network link) in Dolphin that I was using to access that drive and created a new network link (that didn’t resolve the issue).

Every time I boot up Manjaro, I have to enter the password (a pain in the butt, but that is a secondary issue).

After entering my password, I can access the drive, but here is where things go a little wonky. When I click on one of the jpg files, I get an error, if I single click and select open with Gwenview, the image opens, and then I can click on most of the other files in that director and view them. I say most because I will quickly run into an error (from Gwenview) when trying to open a file that says “Unknown error condition: [102] Network dropped connection on reset” or “Connection to host xx.xx.xx.xx is broken”.

I should point out that I am hardwired to the router via Ethernet cable, not using WiFi.

When I try to open a Word or PDF document, it tells me that the document doesn’t exist.
Yet, I can clearly see them listed in the directory and when I copy them over to the computers sdd, I can open the files without issue.

I have tried searching for an answer.
The closest that I have found is someone mentioned having to changed the smb to version 1 (something to do with a Windows flaw) however in Windows 11, smb 1 is off by default. I tried turning it on in Windows as it was a suggested fix but it did not help, so I wonder if it would help in Manjaro.

So the only change I made as far as my Manjaro install is concerned is the router now requires a password to access my external usb hard drive.

I don’t think this is a hardware issue since I can read and write to the usb from Windows 11 and this previously was working just fine in Manjaro and Windows 10. It was only after selecting secure access in the router that I started having all of these issues in Manjaro.

This has led to some rather odd issues as I have pointed out above.
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to provide as much information as possible to help troubleshoot this issue.

So, if anyone can kindly provide me with some help to overcome this issue, that would be greatly appreciated.
If you can also suggest a way to make the password persistent so that I only need to enter it one time, that would be the proverbial icing on the cake.
