Access files in /home/user folder

I have issue with my old manjaro installation and would like to reinstall from live usb. I would like to backup some files in my home folder in the old installation, but it was locked and I cannot access the content. How can I regain access to the folder? I cannot log in to the old installation even though I have the password.

I’ve corrected the title as the path delimiter in linux is /.

I don’t see how chroot can help you here.

Probably you need to adjust permissions or take ownership to get access to that directory.
We’re going for ownership:

$ sudo chown $USER -R /home/user
