Yesterday.
I get a message concerning updates of Firefox and Vivaldi. I Accept, give my password. At the end of the update the screen simply disapears. A black screen, After a long while I shut down the Laptop (Dell Precision 3541 and XFCE). Restart in grub-rescue. No way I know how to proceed.
I reinstall Manjaro.(from an USB image end january)
I update the system.
Everything works just fine.
So I simply don’t know what happened. It wasn’t hardware, I guess.
Where did you get this message?
Maybe if you were a little more precise in your description, we would be able to tell?
Many things might have gone wrong, but it is hard to tell since you reinstalled. Probably an update to grub was the culprit. Or the change in the encryption settings a month or two ago.
Okay, it was Pamac hat warned me in the GUI. I accepted via the same GUI and there was an update and at the end it suddenly went dark. And I accept that this info is insufficient but this incident is 2 mouseclicks and a password. Perhaps I could have corrected it while rebooting with the usb and using chroot. No big harm, I solved it.
the more primitive way.
That sounds like a pamac crash, or possibly just the GUI front-end of pamac, in which case pamac itself will continue running the update in the background.
However… ![]()
Yes, you interrupted the update process, and the hard power-off probably damaged your root filesystem. You must never do that. There are more elegant ways of shutting down or rebooting, and you should have tried those first. ![]()
And just for future reference…![]()
Thank you for these links. The Laptop seemed frozen so I could have waited but I doubt it would have made a difference on my intel 7 and an ssd. And yes, this is btrfs standard so your second link seems to be the solution. I’ll save it on my NAS. ![]()
