A problem with making the screen to go blank and a problem with xscreensaver

hello. I’m running two computers. one of them has gnome and used as a media center with my television.

  1. when i went into the power settings and chose that my computer’s screen will go blank after a minute, ive noticed that instead it made my computer sleep… it is important to mention that i didn’t chose for it to sleep but only to make the screen blank. is that probably a problem with my motherboard of this specific computer?
  2. when ive tried to install xscreensaver and launch it with the launcher there was a splash screen that has disappeared after a few seconds, but the xscreen saver interface didnt loaded. so i could not configure xscreensaver…
I’ve tried to search for a problem it might have with gnome but not sure I’ve found something that solves it. do you know why i dont see the xscreensaver interface? thanks

because xscreensaver is not used with gnome

You’ll probably get more useful information by launching xscreensaver from the command line.
That said, if you’re on Wayland, xscreensaver has only very limited functionality and isn’t really worth using.
