Firefox Update to 26.0-2 issue - Does not show in apps
« on: 13. December 2013, 00:10:01 »
I just updated Firefox to 26.0-2. The icon in "favorites" and it's icon in "internet" have disappeared. The only way I can find to launch it is via terminal.

 ??? :-\

Very odd. Removed Firefox and then deleted the .mozilla folder in my 'home." Installed Firefox again and same issue.

Removed again, deleted .mozilla folder and installed Aroura (Firefox 28 nightly) from AUR. All is fine. There must be some issue with Firefox 26.0-2.

I just experienced this. I reinstalled the package and still nothing. Then I the one I had running crashed on me so I decided just to log out and back in and then it decided to show back up.

Strange. So far I am not liking 26.0 as it seems to crash a lot on me.

I rebooted and it never showed up. So, intill the next update, I guess I'll need to stick with Firefox Aroura.

just make yourselves .desktop files in ~/.local/share/applications :P
It's not hard at all.
Open some of the .desktop files that are in /usr/share/applications in a text editor so you can see how they work, and then you can make one yourself for Firefox.
manjaro-netbook
compiz-xfce
compiz09-manjaro-test

I run: Arch, Manjaro, Debian, openSUSE.

Spellbinder.

As you say, u always have the option of keeping an older version & blocking pacman from updating it in the meantime. That's what I did with Skype a while back, as a newer version introduced a lot of audio anomalies on my machine & the older version does everything I need.

I love the flexibility of GNU Linux!

More power to you & great to have you around the forum.

This may help:

firefox.desktop
Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Firefox
Comment=Browse the World Wide Web
Exec=/usr/lib/firefox/firefox %u
Icon=firefox
Terminal=false
Type=Application
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;text/mml;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;

I cut all of the other languages in the interest of brevity. If your language isn't there copy & paste it from another .desktop file.
Forget about them, all they do is bring the world down. Ignore them & you are bringing the world up, just by ignoring them.  ;D
